Jonah Repents

Inside the belly of a great fish, Jonah realizes how far he's been banished from the Lord. Yet no matter how far he's descended, still the God of mercy is present to rescue him. And this is Jonah's motivation for repentance: the mercy of God.

In repentance, we turn from our sin and turn to our God. Repentance is our response to what the Lord's doing and stirring within us. Repentance is done in faith by the enablement of the Holy Spirit. We don't repent to earn something; we repent because of what's been done on our behalf through Jesus. Therefore, our repentance is grounded in the gospel - what Christ has done for you.
